Dr. james x. Liu

is fascinated with the ugly, gross and unknown.

He was born into a family that hated snakes. So in the ultimate act of defiance, he became a herpetologist. (One who studies reptiles.) But he wasn't done. A published writer, photographer and filmmaker, James also graduated from the #1 veterinary school in the world, UC Davis in California.  Currently, James works as a filmmaker and conservationist for the Turtle Conservancy in New York City.

This path has led James through deserts, rainforests, mountains, and the concrete jungle where he focuses his creativity on how people view and interact with the less cuddly critters of the world. He currently lives with several "roommates" – his tortoise R2D2, two snakes, and his trusty cameras.

He misses California dearly.
